A.S.Co.T. Fencing I - Rome 2010
From Friday 27th to Sunday 29th of November 2011
“Fighting for Friendship”
Nothing could have prevented the bravehearts of A.S.Co.T. Club from accepting the club’s invitation to gather in Rome as autumn turned to winter last year. Accompanied by their friends and spouses, the gallant fencers assembled for a long weekend in the eternal city for a match under the proud motto “Fighting for Friendship” which pitched them, in the most amicable sense of the term, against the members of the prestigious Sala d'Armi Musumeci-Greco. This club located just a few steps from the Pantheon was established in 1878 .
The warm welcome reserved to us on the Friday evening could only add to the lustre of the genius loci, Maestro Renzo Musumeci-Greco, whose passion for swordsmanship is generously shared not only through his deeds but also through the remarkable works on the philosophy of fencing which he has published. Our evening then continued at the private residence (in fact the palazzo) of Marquis Don Patrizio Patrizi-Montoro and his lady wife, the Marchioness, where we dined in the gilded surroundings of their palazzo under the benevolent gaze of their ancestors.

The gala dinner afterwards, to which several of the Italian fencers had been invited, served to put a seal on the sporting friendship which is one of the raisons d'être of our club. We gathered in the sumptuous surroundings of the Nuovo Circolo degli Scacchi for an evening whose elegant conviviality will long remain in our memories. As an agreeable way to conclude this visit to Rome, the private visit on Sunday morning to the church of the Trinità dei Monti, followed, after mass, by a refined lunch in the Villa Medici, provided us with a final occasion on which to savour the charms and beauty of a city which invites us to return and rediscover it…
