A.S.Co.T.  XV - Monaco 2009

From Friday 11th to Sunday 13th took place in the Principality of Monaco the yearly A.S.Co.T. Club international tennis men doubles tournament by nations teams.

This fifteenth edition went off on the prestigious clay courts of the Monte-Carlo Country Club which also welcomes every year the International Open Masters Series 1000, one of the ten biggest tournaments in the world.

On Friday 11th, all players, accompanying persons and supporters met in the Salon des Princes of the Automobile Club de Monaco at the occasion of a « Welcome Cocktail ». Among the Members and friends of A.S.Co.T. Club and the presence of Prince Aimery de POLIGNAC (2009 tournament’s honourable President), his wife Isabelle and their daughter Princess Aurelia, we could note:

  • Count Henri d’ARMAGNAC (France Captain)
  • Count Christian von ATTEMS-GILLEIS (Austria Captain) and wife Sissy (born Princess zu WINDISCH-GRAETZ) and their sons Maximilian and Moritz
  • Count Stefan ORSSICH (Hispania Captain)
  • Judge Jean-Claude BONICHOT (Lord Justice representing France at the European Court in Luxembourg) and wife Anne-Elisabeth
  • Baron Jean-Erik SZENTKERESZTY de ZAGON and wife Isabelle (born Baroness de FIERLANT)
  • Marquis Mariano FONTECILLA y LIRA de MONTEPÍO
  • Count Lionel de SAINT DONAT-POURRIÈRES (ASCoT General Secretary)

On Saturday morning, the tennis games started right from 9:00 and reached their climax with the participation of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of MONACO. His Serene Highness with Count Charles-Eric  du BEDIESSE (A.S.Co.T. Club Founder Chairman) as partner played two games to defend the Monegasque banner, first against Luxembourg represented by Consul Maître  Luc WEITZEL and Viscount Rodrigo PORTO da CRUZ, and later against Germany with Count Dr Nicolas von ROSTY-FORGÁCH and Mr Konstantin von ALVENSLEBEN.

All games took place in such an excellent sporting and friendly atmosphere, that HSH Prince Albert II decided to prolong his stay with A.S.Co.T. Club within the framework of an informal drink on the beautiful terrace of the Country Club.

After this first athletic and sunny day, all members, friends and supporters of A.S.Co.T. Club, nearly 150 people coming from all over Europe met on the terrace of the Monte-Carlo Country  Club for a sun downer cocktail to open the traditional Players’ Dinner to follow in the club’s dining-rooms. At the occasion we noticed Mr. Francis TRUCHI, Director of the M.C.C.C. and Sir Laurent ANSELMI, Legal adviser to H.S.H. Prince Albert II and Secretary General of the Orders of Saint Charles and Grimaldi.

After seven hours spent on the tennis courts, the tireless A.S.Co.T. Club’s players spent with all a large part of the night in the lounges and gardens of the famous Jimmy’z club.

On Sunday, in spite of their short night, all players were punctual at 9 AM to begin the finales in the sumptuous decor of this glorious day and the anchored sailing-boats and yachts in the bay of Monaco that had gathered for the forthcoming worldwide famous Yacht Show.

Scandinavia, the winner team of this year’s tournament  and its numerous International Tennis Club members, received from Prince Aimery de POLIGNAC the Louisenlund Cup that was hold by Germany, the winner of previous event.

All participants being eager about next edition, the Principality and the A.S.Co.T. Club agreed immediately that next  A.S.Co.T. Tennis XVI should take take place in Monaco again  on the first September week-end of 2010.
